Writing a persuasive essay is much like preparing for a debate. You need to study your persuasive essay topic from various perspectives, establish your main argument and gather supporting evidence. Try the following instructions on how to write a persuasive essay. They are indispensable in writing a well-planned and thoroughly considered persuasive essay.

1.Start with an Impressive Lead-In
The introduction of your persuasive essay is the first words you utter to render the readers to be well-disposed to you. Moreover, it is by the introduction that the reader decides whether to go on reading you essay or leave it in peace. Thus, the introduction of your essay should be attention grabbing and impressive enough to induce the reader to read further on.
Writing a persuasive essay, you need to pay particular attention to the first sentence you are going to write down, namely a lead-in. It is the most important part of the whole persuasive essay, out of which you come out either a winner or a loser.
To write a strong and impressive lead-in, try the following strategies:

7.start with an unusual detail;

8.put a strong statement;

9.quote a famous person;

10.introduce a short and up-to-the-point anecdote;

11.open the essay with a statistic or fact;

12.start with an emphatic rhetorical question;
Before deciding on one of the strategies, try all of them. You will be surprised to find out how different strategies can enrich and smarten up the introduction to your persuasive essay.
After you have put the opening sentence, be sure to introduce a sentence that will show that you see both pros and cons of the subject matter under consideration. Then write a thesis or focus statement, which has to reveal your own point of view. A well-formulated thesis statement is the key to success, as it is the central part of your essay, around which all other parts are organized.
Remember that a good introduction should be brief, concise and end with a closing sentence that will be transitional to the next paragrath.
2.Support Your Thesis in the Body
The body of your persuasive essay is the main part of your writing where you present supporting evidence and elaborate on the reasons you stated previously. The body should be a proof that you have researched and examined your persuasive essay topic and that your arguments are reasonable and reliable.
In order to prove your thesis statement and dispel the opposing arguments, you need to: 1) state the facts of the case; 2) prove your thesis with arguments; and 3) disprove your opponent's arguments in three consecutive steps.
Statement of facts is a non-argumentative presentation of details, summaries and narration concerning the problem discussion. In this part of the body you should present supporting evidence without stating your own point of view and trying to persuade the readers in it.
First, you should remind the readers of some events, provide vivid illustrations that will show the significance of the topic. Statement of facts should be clear, brief, and vivid. If you obscure the facts, you are defeating the purpose. Thus, delete irrelevant information and information which contributes little to the reader's understanding.
After you've introduced some facts, you can get down to proving your thesis with arguments. This should be the longest section and the central part of your persuasive essay. With the readers rendered attentive by the introduction and informed by the statement of fact, you must show why your position concerning the facts should be accepted and believed.
Now comes the time to deny the truth on which the opposing argument is built. Be patient in thinking over the refutation. It is the most difficult stage that needs time, concentration and absorption.
The proven way to hook readers' attention is to leave your strongest argument for last so that to leave them with your best thought.
3.Write a Memorable Conclusion.
Your conclusion should be a "mirror image" of your introduction. It means that you should refresh the reader's memory and remind him of the thesis statement you put in the introduction. It is not a mere waste of time or words, but the best way to convince the reader to take your side.
As well as in writing the introduction, you can try several ways to write a memorable conclusion for your persuasive essay.
Except for restating the introduction, you can summarize the main points to enable the readers to recall the main points of your position.
A nice way to conclude the persuasive essay is to write a personal comment or call for action. It could be: 1) your prediction; 2) a question that will let the readers make their own predictions; 3) your recommendations to solve a problem; 4) a quotation. It's up to you to decide!
The last line of your persuasive essay, that is the "tag line," needs special attention, for it is the second most important line after the lead-in. Thus, it is important that it:

4.renders the readers to be well disposed to you;

5.magnifies your points;

6.puts the readers in the proper mood.
Once you have put the full stop after the "tag line", your work is over. But make sure that the words you have put in your persuasive essay will be "working" long after your readers stop reading it.

Baby Back Ribs With Mustard Sauce

Tropical Grilled Pork Chops
BBQ INGREDIENTS 1 clove garlic, minced 1 teaspoon chili powder 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1 pod cardamom seeds 1/2 teaspoon water, or as needed 1 teaspoon vegetable oil 1/4 cup rice wine vinegar 1/2 cup sugar 1 mango - peeled, seeded and chopped 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon cilantro 2 teaspoons lemon juice 1 fresh jalapeno pepper, minced 1 1/2 cups unsweetened applesauce 3 pineapple rings, chopped 1 pinch white pepper 1/3 cup soy sauce 1/3 cup rice wine vinegar 6 pork chops
DIRECTIONS With a mortar and pestle, mash together the garlic, chili powder, cayenne, and cardamom seeds. Mix in enough water to form a paste.
Heat the oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in spice paste, and cook until it begins to bubble, about 30 seconds. Stir in vinegar; cook without boiling for 2 minutes. Stir in sugar until it dissolves. Mix in mango, salt, cilantro, lemon juice, and jalapeno; simmer 20 minutes. Stir in applesauce and pineapple; simmer 10 minutes more. Season with white pepper. Place in a bowl, cover, and refrigerate until ready to use.
To prepare marinade, mix 2/3 cup of the salsa with soy sauce and 1/3 cup vinegar. Place pork chops in a large resealable plastic bag, and pour marinade over chops. Seal tightly, and place in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
Prepare grill for medium-high heat. Drain marinade from bag, and heat in a saucepan until boiling. Lightly oil grill grate. Place pork chops on the hot grill. Cook 10 minutes, or to desired doneness, turning once and basting occasionally with the boiled marinade.
Warm remaining salsa over medium-low heat. Serve pork chops topped with the salsa.

Despite the dramatic finish of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling's successful writing career is not at an end. She will take advantage of the released pressure, but by no means has indicated that she will be abandoning her career as a writer. She has said that she may write under a pseudonym, although the press would discover it "in seconds". Jo has already embarked on writing projects other than Harry Potter. In 2006 in an interview with the Daily Telegraph, she revealed that she has already written a few short stories, and is working on a story, aimed at a younger audience than Harry Potter's, which she describes as a "political fairytale" about a monster. It is unlikely, though, that she will return to writing another book in the Harry Potter series: "I can't say I'll never write another book about that world just because I think, what do I know, in ten years' time I might want to return to it but I think it's unlikely." She has admitted that there are "weak moments" where she has said okay to an eighth book, but these are unlikely and reiterates that Harry would not be the central character. Luckily, though, she has said she is likely to publish a large encyclopedia containing information about Harry Potter and his world not revealed in the books. She has not started writing it, and says she could take more than ten years to complete it: "It's not coming along, and I haven't started writing it. I never said it was the next thing I'd do." "There is no point in doing it unless it is amazing. The last thing I want to do is to rush something out" In July 2007, J.K. Rowling said she is currently writing two books, one for children and one for adults, reminding her of the situation when she was writing Harry Potter as well as another book in the early 1990's , before Harry Potter took over. " The weird thing is that this is exactly the way I started writing Harry. I was writing two things simultaneously for a year before Harry took over. So one will oust the other in due course, and I'll know that's my next thing" she says. None of her future publications are likely to be fantasy, lest she should borrow too much from Harry's world. She has said that "to go and create another fantasy universe would feel wrong". In March 2008, she revealed that her "political fairy story" was almost finished, and that it will "probably be the next thing" she publishes. It is possible that this story has taken over the novel for adults. She also said that she had resumed writing in cafes, reminiscent of what she did 15 years ago, writing the first Potter book. Ultimately, though, we cannot expect too much, too soon, as she says she will take "lots" of time off to spend with her family, and she has noted how much she will enjoy the lack of pressure on her: "... the idea of just wandering off to a cafe with a notebook and writing and seeing where that takes me for awhile is just bliss. Heaven. No pressure."

Book Review - Theodore Roosevelt on Leadership

No President cut a broader swath through the federal government than Theodore Roosevelt. Having served in a number of public offices including governor of New York and under secretary of the Navy Roosevelt was experienced at public administration upon arriving at the White House in 1901 on the death of President McKinley.
Strock examines Roosevelt's unique approach to leadership throughout his life and especially as President. He identifies a dozen primary areas where Roosevelt demonstrated extraordinary leadership skills.
T.R., as he was affectionately known, seized the role of leadership where ever he went. He knew no fear and confronted every challenge with vigor and courage. Roosevelt was a lifelong student, reading all the time. In fact Roosevelt read on average a book or two every day! He maintained that pace while President. He was as a consequence able to converse on any subject with people of all nature of expertise.
He was a team builder. He knew how to build loyalty and maintain it. He always got the very best on his team. He also knew how to challenge and motivate men and would get the best out of them. In part he did this through his own incredible stamina and accomplishments. He set the standard and example for all who worked for or with him.
He was a great public speaker and writer. Long before President Reagan was elected T.R. was a great communicator.
He was a firm believer in personal responsibility and integrity and never wavered from his loyalty to country and family.
In this book Strock does a good job of studying the man and demonstrating through example how he mastered and used all these powerful leadership traits to accomplish more than most Presidents before or since.
At the end of each chapter Strock summarizes the chief leadership principles that he has discussed. His summaries are often direct quotes from TR or are paraphrased. As an example, after the first chapter he lists seven important traits of a leader including focus of energy; seek leadership on one's own terms and avoid indebtedness to others; love their people; be committed to service; build a life based on service; do one's duty and seek to deserve success rather than seeking success.
This book is a little goldmine of Roosevelt's best leadership traits and philosophy. At 238 pages it is a good read.

There were just too many awards to mention in this review, from the Air Force Fighter Combat Record Holder through to The Congressional Gold Medal bestowed by the United States Congress. It will be each reader's privilege to read of these recognitions and commendations.
I enjoyed most, though, reading of Charles McGee's personal family life and of the many individuals affected through knowing him. The pictures on the front cover reveals a man whose eyes share the warmth of love and compassion-a man of integrity who claims respect due based upon respect given. Sample items I appreciated most included:
· Lessons passed down for generations in the McGee family dictated Charles endure them [acts of racism] with quiet dignity. So he turned a deaf ear... (p. 22) · "As hard as things were, there (in the camp) I was not black or white. Just another American pilot and officer afforded the same treatment as the others. (p. 56) · Having come this far, the Tuskegee Airmen faced two enemies and one was American. (p. 59)...and, later, "They knew when they had Red Tails flying with them, they had protection from the Germans they could count on." (p. 61) · "...a lot of what we [Tuskegee Airmen] fought for was an opportunity to overcome having someone look at you and, because of your color, close a door on you." · Responsibility to God, country and family took on new meaning when it included six pound, ten ounce Charlene Edwina McGee... (p. 71) · "Up there above 30,000 feet with the earth below and the canopy of the heavens above, you realize you are a speck, a grain of sand in the grandeur of the universe." (p. 88) · ...he completed the 7000th mission flown by pilots of the 18th Fighter Group, went on to complete 100 combat missions, flying his final mission on February 20, 1951. (93) · When it was time to learn to swim, Dad offered a few pointers then threw me [the author] in the deep end of the pool... (97)
